My Rhetoric Too Harsh?

Filed under: opinion — Tags: — wes @ 11:08 pm

gadsden flagSome have thought I have equated American Terrorists with The Founders of America.  I will confess that Thomas Jefferson’s words about the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of patriots and tyrants makes me recoil as much as the heinous acts that occurred in Oklahoma City. I have tried to detach myself from judging those that stand up to tyrants. I save my ridicule for the tyrant and the citizen that does nothing. It has been said that if good men do nothing then evil will prevail. Most often this thought disposes one to think that if good men do nothing, then the tyrant will prevail. I posit that if good men do nothing, then men with poorer moral fiber and poor judgement will take matters in to their own hands. OKC is case in point. We will not know till Judgement Day the eternal home of Mr. McVeigh. It is written in the Bible that vengeance belongs to the LORD.  Mr. McVeigh and the LORD have came to terms on what happened in Waco and how McVeigh responded in OKC. McVeigh stated that sometimes bullies need their noses bloodied. Others say killing innocent children crosses a line that should never be crossed and equating his actions to the founding of this country is reprehensible. For the sake of argument, Canadians did not rebel from King George and Americans did. What if the Quakers were right and Thomas Paine was wrong? Were the souls of the Founders hung in the balance and found wanting? Judge not lest ye be judged it says in the Scriptures. Is not all rebellion discouraged in the Bible? Jesus had apostles that were Zealots anxiously awaiting the overthrow of Rome, but he discouraged that desire and taught  contrary to their belief.  Rome ultimately fell as well as the Jewish Temple but not by followers of Christ. I think it is foolish to condemn McVeigh and justify the American Revolution not because they were both honorable but because both may have been dishonorable in the eyes of GOD. Certainly America was blessed and that may be reason to believe God found favor in the American Revolution, but we cannot know for certain.

This conjecture muddies the water and stirs up feelings of animosity against me I am certain. My words are not meant to prove either party’s innocence or guilt. Whether we like it or not we stand on the shoulders of those that have gone before us. but we are not them. We  didn’t overthrow a despot king. We have enjoyed the freedom that the founders provided and we have spent blood and treasure defending freedom and assisting others including blacks in this nation as well as oppressed people in other nations to grasp the light of liberty.  Although I brought up the questions of whether or not we ever should have rebelled, my belief is that the point is moot for generations that followed after the American Revolution. Our cause is to remain in that warm glow of liberty. Our cause is to prevent another rebellion by never being shackled by tyrants again. If we do nothing, then all our options are reprehensible. either the tyrants win or we run a risk of another hundred McVeigh’s being spawned for I am pessimistic about the resurgence of Jefferson, Madison, Paine and others. Do not be confused by my calls for action. I do not want churches to have to wrestle the merits of revolution with the teachings of God. I want churches to wrestle with what blood is on their hands if good men do nothing and tyrants win. I want churches to wrestle with what blood is on their hands if good men do nothing and avengers are spawned. Our nation is in great peril. Souls are more important than nations. God will harvest his children no matter what flag flies over them. My words are meant to provoke thought, to provoke action, to prevent tyranny, to prevent the need for another revolution. Some are called to preach the gospel from pulpits, all are called to live in such a manner that the gospel can be seen in their actions. I fear my rhetoric distracts from the gospel. Likewise I fear doing nothing is wrong,  for some people such as I have a calling to cry out against the injustices of unjust government even in the greatest nation on earth.

Truly I wonder what sermon does one deliver to a congregation where McVeigh and Jefferson are sitting on the same pew? Marx, Mao, and Mohammed are sitting on the pew behind them. Ayn Rand is setting next to some altruistic folks and all of them are glaring at Ebeneezer Scrooge sitting on the front row. What message does each one need? What message will they all stay seated for? Will there be Democrats, Republicans and Libertarians in heaven? Will there be flags from any country in heaven? My questions are endless, my answers are few. There is a calling within me to ask you to think, to act, to ask yourself each day “How shall we live?”

A 4-19 MESSAGE FOR THE 4-20 CROWD & ANYONE ELSE

Filed under: opinion — Tags: — wes @ 12:12 am

357px-Victory_over_the_GraveAnother Easter has come and gone and another Four-Nineteen is near. More seems to be said about Four Twenty than the day that proceeds it.  If the new generation could just put down their bong for a moment and pick up a real history book they might notice 4/19.

On April 19th 1529, the 2nd Diet of Speyer used the word Protestant. The Catholic Church decreed that there be no toleration of Lutherans, Zwinglians, or Anabaptists. A group of German Princes filed a protest and were called “Protestants”. This was an acknowledgement of the reformation movement

On April 19th 1775, a revolution began, the American Revolution. The battles of Lexington and Concord occurred as American patriots sought their freedom from the tyranny of the British Crown.

On April 19th 1943, resistance to the German Nazis occurred in Warsaw Poland. This incident is known as the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Shortly after the German occupation of Poland began, the Nazis forced Jewish citizens into a “ghetto” surrounded by barbwire and armed S.S. guards. Thousands of Jews were transferred from there each day to the Treblinka concentration camp for extermination, although the Nazis were assuring everyone that they were being sent to work camps. When the truth reached the ghetto, an underground resistance group was established called the Jewish Combat Organization (ZOB). On April 19 Nazi leader Heinrich Himmler announced the ghetto was to be emptied of its remaining 60,000 residents in honor of Hitlers birthday the following day. More than 1,000 S.S. soldiers entered the ghetto with tanks and heavy artilery. 1,000 ZOB members met the Germans with gunfire and homemade bombs. The Germans initially withdrew after suffering moderate casualties but returned again on the 24th for an all out siege that lasted until May 16th.

On April 19th 1993, the refusal of a religious group near Waco Texas to surrender before the ATF and FBI became the target of a tear gas assault by the FBI. It was a tragic end to a tense 51 day standoff between the federal government and an armed religious cult known as the Branch Davidians. By the end of the day, some 80 followers of David Koresh the cult leader including 22 children were dead. On April 18, U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno approved a tear-gas assault on the cult’s compound, and at approximately 6:00 a.m. on April 19 the Branch Davidians were informed of the imminent attack and asked to surrender, which they refused to do. A few minutes later, two FBI combat vehicles began inserting gas into the building and were joined by Bradley tanks, which fired tear-gas canisters through the compound’s windows. The Branch Davidians, many with gas masks on, refused to evacuate, and by 11:40 a.m. the last of some 100 tear-gas canisters was fired into the compound. Just after noon, a fire erupted at one or more locations on the compound, and minutes later nine Davidians fled the rapidly spreading blaze. Gunfire was reported but ceased as the compound was completely engulfed by the flames. The FBI and the Justice Department maintained there was conclusive evidence that the Branch Davidian members ignited the fire, citing an eyewitness account and various forensic data. Of the gunfire reported during the fire, the government argued that the Davidians were either killing each other as part of a suicide pact or were killing dissenters who attempted to escape the Koresh-ordered suicide by fire. Most of the surviving Branch Davidians contested this official position, as do some critics in the press and elsewhere, whose charges against the ATF and FBI’s handling of the Waco standoff ranged from incompetence to premeditated murder. In 1999, the FBI admitted they used tear-gas grenades in the assault, which have been known to cause fires because of their incendiary properties.

On April 19th 1995, a person named Timothy McVeigh sought revenge on the U.S. government by exploding a truck bomb in front of the Alfred P. Murrah Building in Oklahoma City. This building was the home office of some of the ATF and FBI agents involved in the Waco incident and an incident three years earlier known as Ruby Ridge that was at least as controversial as the Waco incident.

All these incidents were a reaction to a tyranny or what was perceived as a tyranny. Some were justified reactions, some were not, but all were reactions. The rebels were trying to defend their rights. Not just theirs, but the rights of everyone. If the least of us lose our rights, it is only a matter of time until others lose their rights. For once a government acts capriciously denying the rights of one, it will soon deny the rights of others. It changes from rule by law, to rule by men. Rule by capricious men is a tyranny plain and simple. Capricious men craving power will demagogue any and all issues and play factions against factions to grasp and then to maintain their power. The Left prefer today’s young adults stay stoned and stupid than informed and involved. In case they do get involve they want them on their side. They will flirt with legalizing drugs, they will demonize the law and order crowd. They will try to sell them on peace and harmony, with the details of the tyranny to be discovered too late.508px-Cannabissativadior

As we prepare to celebrate the anniversary of the fall of Bin Laden, National Day of Prayer, Cinco de Mayo and Mothers Day, our country is in great danger and is on the brink of great calamity. Leftists forces and sympathizers along with complacent lukewarm Republicans are driving the nation over a proverbial cliff. I know the law and order Republicans alienate the 4-20. The battle of the 4-20 is in the battle of ideas. The law and order crowd wants freedom but they also want safety. The 4-20 challenge is to convince them that cannibus is not a gateway drug and is safer than tobacco products. If this is true (which I doubt), and the 4-20s can prove it; then the 4-20 have a chance. My point is that the political right needs the 4-20 and vice versa. The Left is the enemy of both the 4-20 and the law and order Republicans. It is better to do without pot than to have tyranny. Likewise it is better for a few more opportunities for vices than to have no freedom at all.
There are people much more articulate in listing all the attacks on America’s freedom than I. A few that come to mind are:
· Obamacare which gives the government control over your health.
· Seizing of General Motors & Chrysler and giving unsecured creditors priority over secured creditors and shareholders in bankruptcy litigation. A violation of basic fundamental freedoms of free enterprise. Allowing unions to continue their money accumulation activities for the Democratic Party from dues of their rank and file.
· Consideration of taxes on our movement (miles driven) probably in addition to fuel taxes.
When government controls our health, fiats winners and losers in business, and controls our movements; how can we call ourselves free men?

Thomas Jefferson wrote “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. … “ I choose to use words as my sword. My generation has made many mistakes and so have previous generations. We got some things right but perhaps not enough. It is time for the next generation to begin their time in the spotlight. Unfortunately it may not be as free men.  You have more serious things to be concerned with than 4-20. Nations rise and fall. If America is to prevent a fall, it is time for all liberty seekers to come to her aid. How one decides to render aid must be determined with prayerful consideration. This is not a call to arms but a call to action.

My prayer is that the readers stay free. If not, physically, more importantly spiritually. Easter Sunday falls on on April 19th more often than any other date. Freedom in Christ. (Only in him will it be April 19th for infinity as we rejoice.)

Let the Vetting Begin

Decades ago I was offered the mantle of leader of a local tax protest group and while mulling it over I considered putting it online. This was years before most people had heard of the world wide web or the internet. In my mind I thought of something similar but not nearly as broad and polished as the "Big" blogs created by Andrew Breitbart or the web site of Matt Drudge. I thought too much work, too little time, too many other family obligations, too little knowledge on my part on how to create a popular site. I am glad that people like Matt Drudge and Andrew Breitbart acted on their ideas. With the passing of Andrew Breitbart, the world seems a little less safe. He stood up against the liberal media and fought for truth. Before his death he promised
to do the media's job and vet the president. A task they had failed to do during the last presidential cycle. I've included info from Breitbart.com in this post. In this perilous time in America's history, the world needs a thousand more Andrew Breitbarts.

Jars of Clay Will Prevail If Providence Rains Upon Us

God is in control. God breaks the spirit of rulers; he is feared by the kings of the earth according to Psalm 76.

The Bible is full of stories of flawed people that God used to accomplish his will. God used Noah despite his experimentation with alcohol. God used Abraham despite his old age. God used Jacob even though he was not always honest. God used Leah though she was ugly. He used Joseph who was abused and he used Moses though he stuttered. He even used Gideon who was afraid and Samson with his long hair and a weakness for women.451px-Newt_Gingrich_by_Gage_Skidmore_6 483px-Mitt_Romney_by_Gage_Skidmore_3God even used a prostitute named Rahab to rain providence down upon the earth. There are many more examples than the ones listed here. If God can use these people, he can certainly use one the four people trying to defeat Barack Obama.

This week, the Obama Administration essentially ruled that church sponsored hospitals and clinics cannot render aid to the sick if they do not provide insurance to their employees for birth control services. Although it seems most don’t disagree with certain types of birth control, it does go against the religious views for some churches. Yet Obama has in deeds if not in words said “Obey me, not your conscience.” Some might go further. Perhaps Obama’s deeds say “Obey me, not God”. Certainly it seems that rule by law has been diminished by rule by man.478px-Ron_Paul_official_Congressional_photo_portrait

Obama once said that some people “cling to their guns and bible”. It was said in a deriding way. He also said that America was not a Christian Nation. Many people have heard his words and have seen and heard his deeds. Let us not forget that God has heard and seen him too. We just don’t know if God is ready to make a change.

Class Warfare or Common Sense

Filed under: opinion — Tags: — wes @ 12:37 am

POTUS said in SOTU “you can call it class warfare all you want but I call it common sense”. It is doubtul he ever read Common Sense by Thomas Paine. If he did, he might notice a resemblance between himself and Massenello. Laying hold of popular disquietudes, collecting together the desperate and the discontented, and by assuming to themselves the powers of government, are sweeping away the liberties of the continent like a deluge. Sounds like the definition of class warfare to me.

Apples & Common Sense

Filed under: opinion — Tags: — wes @ 1:37 am

We saw a circus in the second debate in South Carolina. ABC & CNN got their ratings by using Newt’s  second wife and Newt got to perform his righteous indignation act. Meanwhile, watching  Mitt Romney campaign reminds me of what was said about his father when he ran in the primaries against Nixon in 1968. Governor Jim Rhodes of Ohio said, “Watching George Romney run for the presidency was like watching a duck try to make love to a football.[1]  Perhaps the apple does not fall too far from the tree. George’s failure gave us Nixon, Mitt’s failure may give us Newt. Nixon gave us the EPA and Watergate. Newt’s ego may give us something worse, or better.

Since apples usually don’t fall too far, perhaps Mitt will leverage a quote from his father quoting Woodrow Wilson.  “Americans have four basic ways of solving problems that are too big for individuals to handle by themselves. One is through the federal government. A second is through state governments and the local governments that the states create. The third is through the private sector – the economic sector that includes business, agriculture, and labor. The fourth method is the independent sector – the voluntary, cooperative action of free individuals and independent association. Voluntary action is the most powerful of these, because it is uniquely capable of stirring the people themselves and involving their enthusiastic energies, because it is their own – voluntary action is the people’s action. … As Woodrow Wilson said, “The most powerful force on earth is the spontaneous cooperation of a free people.” Individualism makes cooperation worthwhile – but cooperation makes freedom possible.”[2] This quote could be honed in to an uplifting implement to wield against the Big Government policies of the Democrats. It could be used as a segway to say something wholesome about the Tea Party movement that could appeal to Republicans and Democrats alike and strike against the forced altruism that is imposed upon us today.

The timidity of Mitt and George comes naturally because of their business background. Thomas Paine said it best when he wrote  “Commerce diminishes the spirit, both of patriotism and military defense.  submits to continued insults with the patience of a coward. The more men have to lose, the less willing are they to venture. The rich are in general slaves to fear, and submit to courtly power with the trembling duplicity of a spaniel.” By no means do I think either Romney would be/ have been a poor Commander-In-Chief. But it may explain their tone, especially Mitt’s when facing the destruction of our country by the Obama administration.

Certainly Speaker Gingrich is more boistrous  and (as Senator Santorum has described him) an erratic conservative. By the way, I thought Santorum won the last debate in SC and was only bruised by Representative Ron Paul.

This general election and the events I believe to follow compel me to search for a candidate that has an internal spritual compass that will lead them and us through difficult times. Someone not only with the courage of conviction but one with a spritual discernment to chart a course in uncharted waters. I believe Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann have that compass. Of the four remaining candidates I am still undecided but leaning toward Santorum. Honestly, I have thoughts to ignore the men and put faith in the Constitution thus voting for Ron Paul. Rand Paul may eventually be a better choice than his father, and Mitt may be a better choice than his father as well. May God give us all the discernment we need.

Hanging by a thread

Filed under: opinion — wes @ 5:05 pm

Apocalypse_vasnetsovI started blogging a little before Obamacare passed the Congress. We all saw bills come to a vote on weekends and during holidays as the Democrats sought to hurry with unconstitutional laws and strangle our liberties as they controlled the House and Senate and the Executive Branch. November of 2010 the margin in the Senate was reduced and the House came under Republican control. Unfortunately the Republicans have not been able to do little more than slow the bleeding of our liberty. The preoccupation of candidates to run for the Presidency has done little to stop the Democrats so far.  We have watched the rise and fall in polls of various Catholic and Evangelical hopefuls as a historic man of Mormon faith is supported by the old Rockerfeller quadrant of the GOP. Meanwhile Ron Paul continues with   his libertarian message and is preaching what many people believe and is truly representing a meaningful and worthy vein of the electorate. The former speaker is on the hunt but his ego seems to be his worst enemy.

I learned today that a mentor of mine has given up hope and moved to Uraguay. I too wonder that even if the Republicans can win the Senate, maintain the House and win the Presidency if that will be enough to save our nation. Certainly our nation is hanging by a thread. Apocalyptic implication? Doubtful, but grave none the less.

Joe McCarthy was correct. Andy Stern, not so much …

Filed under: opinion — wes @ 2:12 am

Republican Senator Joe McCarthy from the state of Wisconsin from 1947-1957 is famous for his claims that there were 501px-Joseph_McCarthylarge numbers of communists spies, and sympathizers inside the United States federal government and elsewhere. He was eventually sanctioned by the U.S. Senate and his name became linked with demagogic, reckless, and unsubstantiated accusations. Fifty five years later, one can see evidence that McCarthy must have been more correct than most imagined. The examples of communistic/ socialistic attitudes and behavior is on parade every day. The examples are not hidden under rocks but in the wide open for all the world to see.

Recently in his article in the Wall Street Journal, Andy Stern former president of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and now a senior fellow at Columbia University’s Richman Center, seemed to propose a classic communist command and control economic model. In Stern’s article he quotes a Businessweek article by Andy Grove founder of Intel. Stern blends Grove’s comments in a fashion that supports his views. I read the Businessweek article and came away with a different view of Mr. Grove’s opinion.  Grove seemed to propose a protectionist view rather than a hundred percent command and control economy. Grove reached the same conclusion I reached years ago. Grove states that it is not in an American company’s best interest to lose their “chain of experience”. Grove states that this loss of experience jeopardizes our technological evolution.  Mr. Stern interprets Groves pragmatic ideas about business and Grove’s lament about incentives for corporations to move factories offshore as a platform to propose the American Federal government dictate from the top down how industries should behave. Ironically, Grove’s family left an oppressive Hungary to escape the type of government Stern longs for.

Stern admires the planning of the China government and Stern and Grove both marvel at China’s growth. Yet one can admire accomplishments without endorsing the methods or the situation. Most people I have met overseas would come to America if given the chance in spite of their new found economic boom. Stern accurately describes some problems we have in the United States but inaccurately blames capitalism as the root cause.

Author Kel Kelly describes the misguided assumption held by Stern and apparently our own President Obama when he states It is a common assumption in today’s world that capitalism is, at best, out of control and, at worst, outright evil. Everyone knows that it causes most of our financial, economic, and social problems, and that we need a referee — the government — to make sure that all is fair and that we innocent citizens are not taken advantage of by predatory companies and capitalists.” Kelly stated this in his article “Give Capitalism A Chance” August 4th 2010 in a Von Mises Institute publication.

In that same article Kelly stated “My main message is that most of our economic problems derive from previous government intervention in the economy. In its attempts to “help” us, the government has managed and regulated the economy, and passed laws that sounded constructive but that in fact hurt the economy and us. Political economic reality is replete with the law of unintended consequences. Our economic problems are the natural result of political forces, not the natural result of (supposedly evil) market forces. We have voted our current problems into existence by electing politicians who promised to help us by means of economic intervention and regulation.” Kelly’s remarks are true in any country and will be evident someday even  in places that are presently booming. Republicans and Democrats alike have slipped in to the swamp Senator McCarthy tried so ineffectively to drain.

Huntsman: China’s Fifth Generation will have ‘nationalistic impulses’

Filed under: Uncategorized — bermdog @ 1:33 am

Jon Huntsman was interviewed on CNN on Sunday. Huntsman is the former U.S. Ambassador to China, and he was commenting on China’s direction. Here’s an excerpt:

  • “The political dynamic is a very interesting one, and that is, the 18th Party Congress is around the corner. We forgot sometimes, we have elections here next year. They have leadership changes.
  • You’ll hear politics play out because of those elections. You’ll hear politics play out in China because of those leadership changes. They are sweeping, and they are significant.
  • If you stop to ponder that 70 percent of the top 200 leaders are turning over in China, including seven of the nine members of the Standing Committee of the Politburo, I can’t remember a time since 1949 when this significant, this comprehensive a change has occurred in – in senior leadership in China.
  • The Fifth Generation is coming to the forefront. I know many members of the Fifth Generation, as I did the Fourth and some in the Third. They have a different view of the world. It’s based more on a nationalistic set of impulses.
  • They don’t necessarily remember the Great Leap Forward, ‘60 to ‘64. They barely remember the Cultural Revolution, ‘66 to ‘76. They do remember 30 years of blue sky, eight, nine, 10 percent economic growth. That has informed their view of the world. They think their time has arrived.”

This is a generational change and Huntsman provides a nice description of it.  This is a generation completely untouched by the genocidal Communist Revolution and its bloody aftermath in the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution. They’ve had a good life, an easy life, and believe that China should take its place as the leader of the world, replacing the United States, which they see as in decline. And they’re willing to go to war for it.

Right Wing Social Engineering?

Filed under: Uncategorized — wes @ 9:15 pm

Speaker Gingrich once insinuated that Congressman Ryan’s budget plan was right wing social engineering. Yet the speaker is an advocate for illegal aliens that have been part of their local communities for 25 years to be granted some sort of status that prevents them from being deported. If that is not social engineering, then I don’t know what is. Some say that Gingrich is being shrewd and courting the Hispanic vote for the general election. Others conclude that a specific play for the Hispanics is naïve because the Democrats can always out give Republicans for votes. The former speaker often lauds his knowledge of history, yet he seem to stumble over the fact that countries have borders for reasons. Our sovereignty is at stake. Borders matter. Laws matter. Read the words that are written in your U.S. passport.

The Secretary of State of the United States of America herby requests all whom it may concern to permit the citizen/national of the United States named herein to pass without delay or hindrance and in case of need to give all lawful aid and protection.

Without laws and borders, these words mean nothing. Citizens of the U.S. need permission to travel in to foreign countries. Yet Newt Gingrich is worried about tearing social fabric knitted by illegal activity.

Additionally, Mr. Gingrich has been confusing over his position on man caused global warming. He certainly appears to be guilty of social engineering but it is not so clear that he is truly as conservative as he wants Republican primary voters to believe.

It is true that there is no perfect candidate. It is also true that any Republican candidate would be a better choice than Obama. Yet  Mr. Gingrich is still only 3rd or 4th on my list.  225px-Mbachmann
